The band were very proud to play their (tiny, tiny!) part in the Irish women’s rugby team’s Six Nations triumph. The band were in Ashbourne to see Ireland claim the Championship in a thrilling 15 point to 10 victory over France.
The band had the honour of playing the National anthems of the French and Irish teams before the game kicked-off and of entertaining the crowd at half time.
President Higgins was also in attendance and so the band managed to keep up another tradition – of having performed in front of every President of Ireland. The President shook hands with members of the band and stopped for a brief chat with our conductor Zdenek and tenor horn player Marie.
We were delighted to see the Irish team complete the Grand Slam with victory in Italy, roll on next year (if you’ll have us back!).
